New Moon happens when Moon in her fast journey around the ecliptic reaches the exact degree of the Sun. At this point and few degrees before and after the dark moon phase occurs when the Moon is unilluminated by the Sun. Astronomers unofficially refer to it as Black Moon, this phase happens when the Moon’s Earth facing side is fully in shadow so it becomes totally invisible from our point of view.
