Once in a Blue Moon, refers the poetic phrase to something with extremely rare occurrence. On 22nd of August a rare blue moon, a Full Sturgeon Moon happens on the 29th degree of Aquarius, for the second time in this unique constellation.
According to the farmer’s almanac, as the dog days of summer began to give way to cooler temperatures, the fishing tribes converged on the great lakes and other major bodies of water to fish for sturgeon: massive, prehistoric fish that can grow to more than 12 feet long. Because these fish were such an important part of the tribes’ survival, August’s full moon came to be known as the Full Sturgeon Moon.
Looking back to the previous full moon in Aquarius, that was tightly conjunct with Pluto and Saturn, this lunation with the close union, within 3 degrees, to Jupiter already gives hope to a more optimistic, harvest or end of a cycle. Full Moons are culminations of a project, plan, period usually that began with the New Moon in Aquarius about half a year ago. Whilst the previous one gave us a somber result, we had a second chance this time to make amends, to learn from our mistakes and have a second chance with a much more positive result. The late degree 29th also points to having to finish things up, since we have learnt everything with regards to the sign association: groups, communities, friendships, long term goals, gains from our career.
